Working with a Professional Organizer
If you're reading this, maybe you are interested in working with a professional organizer and wondering what it’s all about. We are here to walk you through our process and give you a sense of what it’s like from start to finish. You may have seen photos of our finished projects on our website or on social media. Does it look easily achievable? Or too hard to even think about? Have you been contemplating whether we should come to your house next to make your dream a reality?
Maybe you have some reservations holding you back from making that happen. Are you concerned about the investment? Or maybe commitment, how much is dependent on your part, whether you need to be there or do professional organizers do everything for you? Do you have any reservations about people being in your home, whether it be privacy concerns or important things being misplaced? And lastly, what is it like to work with a professional organizer? What is involved from the very beginning to the very end in getting to the finished result?
Just so that you know, we understand calling upon a professional organizer can be a humbling experience because you’re calling on us to do something you think you should be doing yourself. No need to be embarrassed, absolutely no judgement here! We understand that undertaking an organizing project, even if it’s just a closet, can be exhausting and taxing on a physical and mental level to the point that you don’t want to initiate it at all. Sometimes you just need some help to get started and that’s ok. That’s why we’re here, to help motivate and guide you to get your space back in order. We love making a positive difference in clients’ lives in that they can now see the potential a new space has for them when previously it was less than functional.
Working with you in your home requires an incredible amount of trust in us. How so?
Trust that we will treat all your possessions with respect (whatever is private remains untouched; replacement of important items is noted)
Trust that while we work side by side with you on every single item that we harbor zero judgment on you for possessing them
Trust that we will organize your home to be in harmony with your everyday life
We strive to build trust with you in every way that we can. We want you to feel at ease that this project can and will be done, using positive reinforcement along the way as we work with you. We will ask you how you feel as we move along, noting any preferences you have so we can establish them. Generally speaking, the ease with which a client feels towards us becomes evident when they can relax and share personal stories behind an item, thus bringing it to life. This, along with their ever-growing trust in us that we have their best interest in mind during the whole process makes us feel we are as much a part of their family as we feel they are a part of our extended work family. Of course, we hope to garner your trust and extend our open arms to you.
Hello! How Can Sorted Help You?
The first thing involved in working together with Sorted is a phone call so that we can understand what you need help with concerning the specific areas of your house, whether it’s just one room, a few rooms, or the whole house. If you’re working on a budget, we would ask you to tell us which area of the house is most problematic, point out spaces of concern, or prioritize spaces that need the most work done to organize them. We’ll do a home consultation to meet and get a tour of the spaces. This typically takes anywhere from twenty minutes of your time for one room to a couple of hours if a whole house. We’ll talk about your challenges and what your vision will be for these spaces. We’ll take pictures and any measurements needed for any future product fittings.
The second thing involved is actually behind the scenes and solely involves the Sorted team. We are busy planning your project, and we do this several weeks in advance before we arrive at your house. What do we do? We do space planning, which is looking at the space and making a plan as to what would live there, whether it be rearranging furniture, bringing in new furniture, or implementing products. When implementing product, we’ll do research to see what would look best with your aesthetic and what will increase the functionality of the space and then order them accordingly.
Now what happens? The team arrives at your house! After a brief introduction of team members and pleasantries we’ll reiterate with you the goals of the room(s) and ask if there’s been any changes since we last spoke. If everything is good, we’ll begin our step-by-step process of editing:
Lay out and categorize items and give emptied areas a thorough cleaning
Decide whether to keep items or let them go (guidance provided if unsure)
Discuss how things are used so that organization will reflect the everyday routine
Organize or arrange items by category or sequence, using organizational products if needed
Remove trash to bins and take away donations
That’s it! We hope that we’ve shared some insight into what is involved in the process of working with us in your home. We want to show you that organizing any area of your house is easy when there’s a team ready at your beckoning to get it done and make you feel comfortable as we go through the process with you. Your full participation is required mostly during the editing phase, but know that investing just this small amount of time will reward you with countless hours and newfound energy to enjoy living in your newly-organized space.
